Wrapped in His Love, one of the Church’s Faith Groups, has included a Prayer Shawl Ministry as one of their activities. Prayer Shawls have been made for centuries and are a universal and embracing symbol of an inclusive, unconditionally loving God. They wrap, enfold, comfort, cover, give solace, hug, shelter, and beautify. Those who have received these shawls have been uplifted and affirmed as if given wings to fly above their troubles.
Prayers & Blessings for the Recipient–While many prayers shawls are knit or crocheted, soft fabrics sown to include fringes work well also. The Shawl Maker begins with prayers and blessings for the recipient, known or unknown. The intention is to continue throughout the creation of the shawl. Upon completion, a final blessing is offered before the shawl is sent on its way.
We would like this to be an ongoing ministry in our church. Prayer shawls will receive their final blessing during prayer time periodically throughout the year. The shawls will be given to members of our church and the community who need comfort and love during times of hardship.
The members of Wrapped in His Love would like to invite anyone in the congregation who is interested in making prayer shawls to join us. If you know of someone who is in need of a prayer shawl, contact Kathy Davis for details.
