- How was this program started?
- Teachers first brought to our attention the desperate needs of some students. Working closely with principals and school faculty, we have carefully selected students w
ith hardships or diversity who need us. So our churches and volunteers provide a new outfit, shoes, coats, warm blankets, pillows, toiletries, and other items to make the students feel comfortable in their school and public settings. No other organization in Vermillion County, IN reaches out to these students. Without us, they may never feel like they are cared about or many never get help.

- How does this program change the community?
- If kids don’t have clean clothes or daily hygiene available, chances are they will not go to school. If they have an after school or weekend job, but do not have clean clothes or daily hygiene they will not go to work. This mission helps give these students confidence to sit in a classroom or work within their communities. They are the future of Western Indiana and beyond. The more the kids engage in school and their community, the more the community will engage with them.
- Impact of the program:
- The impact this mission has is measured by the gratitude and confidence that students get from receiving a
wonderfully needed Christmas. The outreach of volunteer help and the love that goes into this mission surpasses any program in the community. The students selected for the receiving end of this mission suffer from the deepest and worst hardships and/or the estrangement they go through at school or in society. Therefore, these students are carefully selected so that we can provide them with items to bring comfort and relief.

- Success of this program:
- Besides the schools and selected students being thrilled about this project, the entire community and beyond look forward to the Wildcat and Falcon Christmases. Our enthusiasm is contagious. Others see our commitment and passion for this mission. They want to be a strong part of the church within sharing and caring and being a part of God’s work. Each year of this mission is reviewed and evaluated. It’s stronger than many.
- How does funding support this program:
-
It takes a full year to plan and complete this annual mission. It starts with generous monetary donations and donations of needed items. Most think since it deals with Christmas time that is only take a few months to pull it all together. However, planning for the next year begins the day after each year’s mission is complete. Wanting to make it better, find better deals, and find new people to help us starts right away and helps us to grow together. With the high costs of goods and living, it takes much strategic planning in a timely manner to get the desired results. Grants or other funding sources help us purchase new clothing and shoes for 150 carefully selected students included in this mission.
- Purchases for this project can be made from the Wal-Mart South Vermillion Wildcat and North Vermillion Falcon Christmas Registry
