The District Superintendent has scheduled our church conference for March 18, 2023 at 3:00 PM. This conference is when Clinton First UMC church members will officially vote on whether to disaffiliate from the United Methodist Church.
The following is the language from the District Superintendent concerning the voting requirements.
“All professing members will have voice and vote during this Church Conference, and only those on the submitted roster will receive a ballot (everyone, not just a family unit); and I will provide all paper ballots. It is the responsibility of the congregation to begin immediate contact and communication with all professing members to make them aware of this meeting (there is not a proxy vote, and all will need to be present to be counted in the tally). This contact and communication must include email, mail, and phone calls, as this is for all professing members who are on the membership roster.”
The church conference on the 18th is what we have been working towards with our time of discernment, board meetings, town hall meetings, and individual discussions that we started in September 2022. This is when we determine where the Holy Spirit is leading us as a body of believers with regards to the UMC. This is a decision none of us should take lightly, which is why from now until the church conference, we must continue the discernment process by prayer, reading the Bible, and trusting God’s guiding hand.
I want to close with Romans 12:2 ESV “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”
